Our Mission

Josephine County Historical Society is a nonprofit historical society in Josephine County, Oregon. Our mission is to collect, preserve, and share the history of our community. Through exhibits, events, and educational programs, we aim to inspire a love of history and a sense of pride in our shared heritage.

Resources

The Josephine County Historical Society Research Library contains books, family histories, photos, maps, newspapers and much more! We also offer guided tours of our Schmidt House Museum and of the historic Grants Pass downtown area.

Our Living History Players perform in the community by dressing up as historical figures and sharing about their character's life. 

Sundays Make History

Our own volunteer, Joan Momsen, is a life-long resident of Grants Pass, OR. She has published multiple books that are for sale in the Historical Society library and regularly writes for The Courier. Check out some of her Sundays Make History articles below!

The office, research library and bookstore are located next door to the Schmidt House. The office is at 5th and K St and has a parking lot attached. JCHS is a 501 (c)(3) organization.
